Offering a scholarship when there is none to give? Topic

While examining the signings of recruits by my conference peers during the tail end of phase 1 recruiting, I came across a perplexing situation. One team in particular shows 0 available scholarships. They currently have all 12 roster spots active, no walk-on's, & no real chance of an NBA early entry. However, this coach & I are battling for a highly touted eligible PG. Furthermore, upon examining the recruit's considerations, that particular coach has offered the recruit a scholarship & is listed as very high on the PG's list. How is this possible? What sense can be made of this? More importantly, does this eventually mean that the PG will fall into my hands since the other school does not have a real scholarship to offer?

You can offer in Session 1 and then cut a player in Session 2 to make room for said player. Basically the other coach is willing to gamble cutting a player that he will sign the targeted player.

I guess I never experienced anything like this since I always try to recruit as evenly from year to year & always have a spot available. Thanks for clearing up the matter Rednu.
