I was just wondering how to select d1 players to go after as a division 3 coach. Is it possible to land a ranked or star recruit? Is it better to look for a recruit that's not being pursued by any d1 or d2 humans late in the process. I guess im asking what is the best or most important criteria in finding a d1 recruit that is plausible for you to get at a d3 school.

In a nut shell, you want to look for guys with one stat that will turn away D1 coaches. Examples of this are:

Guards with <50 ATH
Guards with <80 SPD, BH or PASS
Low WE guys
Post players with < 80 ATH or REB

Guys that max out with cores in the 80+ range are going to get taken but a 70 ATH 85 SPD 50 BH 75 PASS guard is going to get over looked at D1 but be very good at D3.

This guy is what I am talking about. Super high SPD, PER, BH, PASS but there was like no chance a D1 school would go after him with the 30 ATH and 45 DEF.

Here's a post player that wasn't going to be signed by a D1 school because of his low BLK and super low starting scores (36 REB 27 BLK)

Yeah, that means very little. One of the issues with "Ranked" players is that they are more likely to draw sim attention. You can beat a D1 sim at D3 but it needs to be the right situation and you need to heavily invest. It isn't easy.

This is my #1 favorite type of recruit--Sub 40 speed and SB for DIII, Sub 50 for DII. No flaws but instead no position for above levels.
