What should I have a player set for if I only want him coming in if there is foul trouble or an injury?

I assume mop-up. I had a guy play 0 minutes at mop-up and not in the depth chart.

Your question isn't clear. If someone gets in foul trouble/injured you would put in your next best alternative
on the depth chart

It isn't but I assumed he only wanted a specific player to play if he absolutely had to play.

its hard to control in detail

mop up minimizes minutes - plays only if the sim is really desperate

one way to give a guy low minutes is to put him 4th on the depth chart with an empty third slot
