The conferences are apx a dozen years out of date. Over the years, they have not been updated because it would **** off people - especially folks who have reach upper DI and care about the conference they are in.
NOW may be a singular opportunity to update the conferences.
1. DI population is down. 3.0 has led to some departures. May lead to mine, but I'm still giving it a fair try. With lower DI population, there are fewer people to get ****** off. And, numbers of BCS schools are empty.
2. conference strength matters less than before. When conference $$ was a big deal, changing conferences put peoples expectations at risk. No more.
3. conference chat and community is down - because of #1 and #2, at least in DI there is less community in each conference
4. I dont think that - generally, no doubt there are exceptions - people are as wedded to DII and DIII conferences as they are at DI.
5. dont depart from 12 team conferences - lots of stuff depends on that - dont even think about changing that - reallign as best one can with that constraint.
NOW, we are in a game where the staff cant fix the list of champions. Cant solve the glitch that shows just 10 teams being considered in alpha order, even if there is a low team that has offered a schollie and is lurking. that cant find time to follow up on the steps they said they were working on in November 2016......SO, odds of action soon seem low.
But, what do folks think - if not now, when?
