Roster construction for FB team Topic

I've got 6 seniors on my team that runs the FB offense, so this next recruiting cycle is a good opportunity to assemble a roster that's really setup to run. I've mostly used motion in the past, so looking for some input on what kind of players to target for the FB. I'm thinking something like this:

PG - Distributor, High SPD
SG - Slasher, High SPD/LP
SF - Shooter, Good SPD/High PER
PF - High ATH/DEF, Good SPD
C - High ATH/DEF/BLK
I envision my scoring coming from the 2 and 3 and a good inside defensive presence at the 4 and 5.

Pretty good. You could also to Per in SG and LP in SF. I think high LP SFs can be GREAT scorers.

Your PG can also be a really great scorer with the speed and some per/BH (just like any offense).

Oh yeah, and obviously don't ignore stamina. Underrated rating IMO.

Thanks for the input Benis. Sounds like you're saying the 2 and 3 can be somewhat interchangeable in the FB.

Umm not exactly for all ratings. I want my SG to be really fast while I'd lke to have more ath at SF. But I have had some decent success running basically a 3 guard lineup. Just SPD/BH/pass everywhere.

I have a pretty good FB/Press team right now at CNU that you can take a look at to get an idea of what I go for. I'm really curious about how good Magana will be. Still green in LP/Per/BH/Pass. Black in ath/SPD/reb/def. Blue blk. Would like more spd/def but should be elite scorer as a senior.

I think the 1-3 are all kinda interchangeable. They should all be fast, hopefully athletic, at least one should have a high PER.

One more thing about FB that I noticed first hand - don't go crazy with Per. You def want at least 1 reliable 3pt shooter but other scorers should be from LP- even guards.

A couple seasons ago I had some great shooters and attempted a ton of 3s. I was averaging about 13 made 3s a game. But by doing that you don't get to the line enough and so you're not taking advantage of the main benefit of FB by getting fouled. I think I would have been better off swapping one of those shooters with a monster LP SF.

That CNU team is a great example, especially the team stamina. That's something I need to pay more attention to in recruiting.

Dillon is an unbelievable PG at the D3 level. I haven't really been a fan of scoring PGs on my motion teams, but it makes a lot of sense in the FB.

Yeah and if that butthole could learn how to play defense without fouling I would really like him.

I would just aim for the best player possible that has good Ath/De. I don't pay attention roster roster construction at Low DI, as I'll have 11-12 players each year, so why do they need to "fit together seamlessly." You should also have 11-12 players a year at DII or DIII. Recently, I have always made sure to take a PG candidate every other class and a shooter every other class. It's helped me a lot.

This is sound advice. PG, IMO, is the hardest position to recruit. It's a little easier in FB but you still need SPD, BH, Pass (although not as much) and an acceptable amount of ATH/DEF and STA (in FB) AND pretty much everyone is looking for the same thing.

For every other position (outside of high D1) I feel like people rank attributes differently so the guy I think is a good post player may be unattractive (or at least not worth battling for) to other users. Part of recruiting at D3 and D2 is "moneyballing" it taking players that others don't want.

I got a lot of mileage out of the high ATH/DEF/PASS - low(ish) speed, BH, reb, per/lp guys and sticking him at the 3 in a 3-2 zone. People are willing to fight for that type of guy when he is in Latvia because he is a role player.
