When applying for a div 1 job. Sometimes it will say LONGSHOT. Does this work pretty much just like you would think or is it impossible or even easier? Asking for a friend.

Next to impossible. I have never received a job from one (0 for 20 or so), but several long time users say it can end with a successful job change.

A longshot, but different, question.

I'm a longshot for a handful of D1 jobs I don't want in Rupp. I have a very specific goal of taking a team that's never won a NT game, winning one, then moving on. I'm pretty sure I'll make the NT in D2 again if I stay, thus opening up more opportunities next season, but I've been known to take a team to the F4 and then win 9 games the next season. My potential incompetency cannot be ignored.

So my question is: If I actually get a longshot job, obviously a terrible D1 team, would I ensured of qualifying for an equally bad D1 job the following season? Or would I be better off staying in D2 and trusting that I don't completely **** the bed?

The second. I don't actually know if a bad season can hurt you so much that you then don't qualify for other D- jobs but it might. I wouldn't take the chance. Job logic in this game is "qwirky" to put it nicely....

Yeah, I think so. Also, not sure what the advantage of taking a ****** D1 school just to jump to another one is.

I'm only a longshot so, judging from longshot threads, I'm not getting a ****** D1 anyway. But, if I did, I was wondering if that would create a better/worse scenario in getting my "dream" job.

I'm 0 for 4 on longshot jobs as well. I've only ever applied for kicks to low C/high D DI programs where I was a longshot while still in DIII.

Certainly the latter. I have a tendency to switch jobs too quickly when there's a school I really want. It usually backfires. In Iba, I wanted a specific ACC school and it was available for many seasons. Instead of staying at Marquette, where I would have qualified for my "dream job" in another season or two, I jumped to a lesser ACC school, gambled I could rebuild it quickly and lost. Now, the job has been taken and it could have been mine if I just would have stayed put. Best you stay where you are and build your resume in DII.

Agree with TJ on this one. I think your odds of having more D1 options are better if you put in another year at D2 and hope for the best. Moving to a crap D1 school could get you stuck in low D1 limbo where your options are pretty much the same D- schools over and over until you can bring the prestige up a bit.

I was recently facing the same dilemma in Phelan. I was eligible for basically the same set of D/D- schools after my first two D1 seasons as I was when I took the job after my last D2 season. Only after my 3rd year in D1, when I hit a C- prestige did my options open up to some better schools.

So, I'm guessing you were hoping to get the Miami job? Seems like getting a D1 dream job is a tough proposition in this game. Takes a lot of luck to be in the right place at the right time, even after you build up the resume to qualify. Now I understand why some people sit on these jobs for 20+ seasons.
