how high should I reach for D1 recruits I just took over a D2. In D3 we took bottom D1 recruits. I was just wondering if we can get top 100 players or stick to the bottom.

In D3, I recently got a 1 Star top 200 overall recruit. So I'd say, at D2, you can get 2 and even 3 star recruits. Maybe not the top 100 overall, tho.

The higher you reach, the more likely you are to face competition. You can get 2 star recruits or so, but you just have to get lucky with ones that D1 coaches didn't scout and/or try to pursue. I've stayed away from top 100 at D2, but I've seen some get lucky and snag one here or there.

Don't get hung up on rankings. I suggesting looking for players with flaws. All the dudes that max out with 90's in their cores will be targeted by D1 teams, Looks for the guys with a whole somewhere, the guard with a 35 ATH or the Post player with a 50 block or 30 LP. Those are the guys you can sign without competition.

OR guys like this:

His defensive cores are all in the 80's and his offensive skills are in the 60's which makes him not attractive to D1 schools. Certainly not worth 10k in recruiting cash. Very solid D2 player IMO.

guys like this are also a plenty in D2. It’s easy to build a team with good cores and build up your rep within a few seasons.

Yeah low speed (<80) guards are EASY to snag at D2. IF the rest of their cores are high they can be very serviceable starters.

I was going to suggest this too. I just signed a no star guy with my NMSU team. He's not a 4 year starter but he'll be solid as a Jr/Sr.

it also depends on location and human population of D1 in that world. I recently moved to D2 in Knight, but as a D3 coach in an empty conference in Minnesota with no DI human coaches in the area I was able to get ranked players easily as they fell through the cracks.

In Smith as a D3 coach, I dont get too excited when I see a ranked recruit because the New England area is dense with a lot of human D3, D2, AND D1 coaches. So I have to get more creative and look else where.

So my answer is: it varies by world population and your location, there is no definite answer to this. People tend to flock to the ranked players when they assume they are always better than unranked and that is definitely not the case. I say just test the waters during the first few cycles but keep more realistic backups on your list.

This guy Hoops Dynasty – College Basketball Sim Games - Joseph Vasbinder - Ratings - Rupp - Hoops Dynasty Basketball | WhatIfSports was one of the best players on my D2 team and he was a projected D2 recruit when I got him.

In case that link dies, he was a 64/77 ATh/SPD guard with 93 PER, 86 PASS and was conference player of the year his senior season.

don't get caught up in chasing D1 recruits exclusively. There still are gems you can find in the D2 pool.
decent player for me in Rupp:
