Not covering the spread, does it matter? Topic

I have ignored the spread so far. I believe it is just cosmetic. I sure hope so. I don't believe I have any chance of covering a 90 point spread.

I'm fairly certain it will slightly hurt your top25 ranking/projection report (beating a team by single digits where you are favored by 90 is worse than beating them by 50).

This is why scheduling teams that aren't doormats will help in the long run (although losing to teams that you have no chance in hell beating is way worse).

Unless they changed things, the only reason the spread was put in, in the early HD years, was for a fictional betting site, that WIS created. It's a cosmetic number.

i assumed the same as buddhagamer. Is it not true that the spread has a relationship with top 25 rankings?

I thought it did have an affect on top 25/ projection report as well...

I don't think the spread has anything to do with rankings, but I believe margin of victory does.

When Seble was overhauling things I know he asked the community if margin of victory should matter and I believe the answer was "yes" (and it mattered in 2.0, iirc), so I don't think any changes were made.
