The Crum A10-Southland Challenge Topic

The inaugural A10-Southland challenge occurred in week 7 of the non-conf schedule in Crum. Going on the road vs. the A10, the Southland Conference posted a 3-1 record.

Texas A&M, Corpus Christi 97-76 Dayton

TAMCC took a 13-point lead at half and never looked back at the UD Arena beating the Flyers 97-76. TAMCC shot .566 from the floor and were 31-38 from the charity stripe. The Islanders were led by Senior guard Mike Smith’s 22 points off the bench. Dayton prevailed on the glass but were forced into 24 turnovers. The Flyers’ Thomas Stone led the way with 20, and PF Steve Lloyd chipped in 9 boards.

Charlotte 89-59 UL-Monroe

A balanced Charlotte attack saw four players in double-figures as the 49ers cruised by the Warhawks 89-59 in Charlotte. For Charlotte, junior John Meyer poured in 26 on 10-16 shooting. Sophomore Fernando Colon added 18 while dishing out 8 assists with only 2 turnovers. Junior guard Willie Stone had 13 points for ULM, which gave up 22 turnovers on the night.

Sam Houston State 68-60 Xavier Musketeers

The SHSU Bearkats travelled to Cincinnati and pulled out a thriller, holding on to defeat Xavier 68-60 at the Cintas Center. James Bivins led SHSU with 25 points. The Musketeers had three players in double-figures, led by junior forward Roy Elmer’s 22. Earl Powel added 10 rebounds for XU.

Stephen F. Austin 67-63 Richmond

SFA prevailed in a tight defensive battle, 67-63 over the Spiders in Richmond. Forward Roger Tellier and guard Dickie Delahoussaye put in 17 points apiece for the Lumberjacks, with Tellier adding 8 boards. Senior center Marty Williams had 24 points and 10 rebounds, while forward Richard Sanders added 20 for Richmond, which was outscored by 16 from the free-throw line.
