Relax guys.... This one's no fun. And nothing to argue about here!

I know some coaches redshirt their best player to get an extra year out of the player, with higher IQs and attributes. I'm sure in some cases it might not be your best player now. But maybe the player has the most potential to be your best player eventually.

Anyways, I'm in a tough NT matchup tonight and i thought "man, it would be nice if i didn't redshirt that guy". (Honestly he still wouldn't put me over the hump anyways, he's a sophomore with B IQs at this point)

My question is, have any of you been in a position where you've felt it's worth it, and un-redshirt your player? Like if you made your first NC game and wanted to go all in, and give away that year of eligibility just to bring your redshirted player in for the NC game?

Sounds ridiculous, but I'm sure some have thought it, if not done it.

great minds must think alike dogg.

i would normally never consider it, but thinking hard about it at gboro.

my team is decent this year and i redshirted a juco as i feel i normally get way more out of them that way.

but this time im having second thoughts. (NT about to start, weve played like crap all year but got a 2seed somehow)

this kid would be backup pg but would probably might help if we got in an uptempo game (hmmm actually just like the nailbiter we just lost in the CT title game vs #1 viva il re)

add to that the fact that we are going to be awful the next two years. my thinking is that he will make us a little better next two years and could help us get into NT. but really this situation screams to take the redshirt off. but i dont know if i can do it. hes just not "ready". and i dont like the idea of being even awfuller in 2 years than what ill be with him. and... i kinda hate to admit a mistake i guess

let us know what you decide

Oh I'm definitely NOT doing it right now.

It's not really an option for me this season. I just brought this up because of a quick "errrr wish i had more guard depth for this game" thought.

And i assumed others have thought this as well

I've thought about it but only if it was a junior or senior, don't think I could ever go through with actually removing the redshirt though. Would be interesting to remove a redshirt and the player helps you win a title. That would take some giant cojones!

I was thinking the same thing. My Wooden team is a NC contender, and currently the #1 overall seed. I promised a freshman SF a start and 20 minutes. Somehow I was able to redshirt a Sophemore who I had promised minutes to last season without a WE hit, I hadn’t actually thought he was going to accept it. I’ve been pondering who to replace the SF with and I keep thinking to myself “man it would be really nice to have Felice start at SF”. I don’t think I’m actually going to pull the trigger, but I want to.

if i make it to play turtles colorado in the e8... maybe ill remove redshirt just for the hell of it. it would make a great story if it worked.

and can garunfreekintee you i would take it off if we made it to a rematch with viva.. but dont think thats gonna happen

my guy actually has good ratings, but i cant recall playing a B- iq guy important minutes in a long long time

Yeah, if we both remove it, someone is garunteed to come out of the game looking like a genius

My guy that is redshirted now is a sophomore who i promised minutes to as a freshman. I'm not sure that has an impact. Unless I've just gotten lucky

monster.. its tark that im in... your redshirt there is a freshman and really you dont need him to beat me anyway. you were talking about wooden where you have a soph
2/26/2018 3:46 PM
plus it would take a lot more than that to make me look like a genius

Shoot. With two Colorado teams I get confused. In an earlier post I said boy wouldn’t be great if I had Tindle to start at small forward. I later had to go back and change it to Felice. They are essentially the same player.

i cant tell you how many times i have checked to see if pbau or colorado was open... even if i wasnt looking for a team, which im usually not. i finally got me a pbau last year.

come to think of it , i was probably in a position to get colorado wooden a while back. after season 79. but i guess i was happy at whittier and decided to stay there

Yeah, I was waiting for them to open up, and somehow both of them opened up at the same time (like within 2 days) and I got both.

Here's your chance to do it Dave. I will be expecting the un-redshirt.
