Rescinding a scholarship Topic

What are the short term and long term negatives to rescinding a players scholarship that you originally gave to him.

I understand you get no recruiting funds but looking for the other negatives.

Outside of not receiving no extra recruiting money and AP, the only other short term negative is that sometimes players will quit the team after you cut someone.

Now before you get worked up or worried about losing your star player, I haven't seen that in quite a few real life years, not even sure if that is still possible or not. But it used to be possible. When i I decide to cut someone this is not even something I factor in.

Any other negatives you will need to consider based on your returning team. I cut someone I recruited this last recruiting cycle in Phelan because the guy wasn't UNC quality even tho I recruited him, plus I had set myself up to fill his scholarship even without the extra AP and funds.

A fractionally small loss of Coach reputation. I do it all the time, and if you recruit correctly you can line up a guy before you cut him. Since I got no additional benefit, I ALWAYS wait until I see what I am getting to fill the slot, that way I don't end up with somebody worse.

Thanks for the response. The one thing that makes me hesitate to drop him is the fact if someone else left because of that action, it would really hurt. Since he will be a junior this season, he will be gone after next season without taking any risk and since he is probably not going to play any this season, he also could possibly leave on his own. Having him or dropping him has no effect on this season so it really only makes a difference for one season but it would sure be nice to have that opening guaranteed for next season.

Still not really sure what I'm going to do.

As mentioned I have not seen anyone additional leave in a long time, probably close to 7-8 years real time.

I cant confirm but it definitely seems like that doesn't happen anymore. If you want him gone, i'd say definitely pull it and don't even let that be a factor in your decision.
