Hello people, here is riddle 14. Written by the same coach as riddle 13.
  • I am a former player and a two-sport all-star.
  • It didn't start out this way, but basketball was family business for me.
  • I flew from the eastern skies to the tumbleweeds as an old man.
  • I skipped my retirement ceremony.
Who am I?

Riddle Point to the winner, Street Cred for an alternative answer that fits all the clues.

Scratch my earlier answer. It was a street cred attempt gone bad. I removed it

Barry Larkin?

1) This is the worst fit, but Larkin accepted a football scholarship before playing only baseball at Michigan.
2) Didn't start out as a basketball player, but son Shane is an NBA player.
3) Yeahhh, not totally sure here. Definitely started in Eastern skies, not sure about tumbleweeds.
4) He asked the Reds to cancel his retirement ceremony.

Also maybe John Havlicek.

I'll throw mine back up. And share my reasoning for a bad attempt at street cred....

I said Jerry Krause. After some research.

1... played basketball and baseball, his first love.
2... family oriented, cared about his scouts as an owner
4.... Passed away (yes it's out of order. Because....)

3.... The real Jerry Krause went back to scouting in his late years for the Arizona Diamondbacks (tumbleweeds, deserts). But where i was wrong. There is a Jerry Krause that previously coached "Eastern" Washington in the Big "Sky" conference. (So from eastern sky to tumbleweeds as an old man made perfect sense!)

problem is.... the coach of Eastern Washington wasn't THAT Jerry Krause. Haha

It'll be wrong but Tracy McGrady

Played basketball and baseball in HS. Realized his life-long dream (sincere) to play professional baseball when he appeared in a few minor league games as a pitcher in 2014 (a sham publicity stunt.)
His younger brother played on the 2008 Memphis State team that lost the national title game.
His last basketball stint was in 2013, playing for the Quindao DoubleStar Eagles out of China (that's Far East.) When the Chinese season ended, he flew back to the US and signed with San Antonio (plenty of tumbleweeds there) just before the NBA playoffs began. He was an old man in basketball years, especially since he went from HS directly to NBA.
His jersey was retired by the Quindao DoubleStar Eagles in 2015. I don't think he attended the ceremony.

I know this wasn't specified, but I always thought these questions were based off of the answers being coaches. So I wasn't thinking of players being involved. Oops
