Update: I have offered him a scholly and put 1 CV and 6 HVs into him. Signings don’t start until the 29th, so I’m stockpiling APs into him for now. He will likely be over 350 APs by the time signings come around. I will inform him of redshirt the cycle before signings start (he has early signing preference). Hopefully this works out.
Be prepared to have the door slammed in your face. It happens often. Even with lots of effort. And i'm not sure your current recruiting situation, but don't go into that cycle where you decide to offer the redshirt thinking that you've stockpiled AP. 350 isn't really that much. It's not a horrible number. But it's not big enough to be a significant factor. 350 AP is an average of like 25 per cycle. Coaches put way more AP into players that they really want, when able.
Unfortunately given my current situation, I can’t afford to allocate more points to this guy. If giving him 100 more in total would guarantee the success of this, I would. Given that this seems to be uncharted territory by some here, this is the best I can do. I am prepared to get screwed by this dude, but it would be nice for this to work.

Good luck. He may or may not accept. I was just adding that the worst could happen because it's not a perfectly safe situation. And you're right that an additional 100 AP wouldn't make it 100% either

You have like zero percent chance of showing back up on his list. I've done this a few times and it has never worked. I have poured multiple HV's (right, that doesn't drop to zero, right?), APs and promises and never shown back up. I remember someone claiming it worked for them but I don't believe it.

I don't inform of RS to any JUCO who wants to play. It's like an automatic, "Take a hike *******" but I haven't ever had that happen to one who didn't have the preference.

I think, think, one time when I was the only guy on him, the disappearing guy signed with me because there were literally no other offers. I could be wrong and remembering that wrong.

So are you saying that this is doomed to fail? I want this to work, but I don’t want to beat a dead horse and expect it to stand up.

I've done it successfully once with this guy. Ignore his terrifying picture.

I don't remember how much effort I put in before informing but it was around 5 HVs if I recall. I remember his Wants to Play preference went to Very Bad but I didn't notice anything else. Everything was unlocked and stayed unlocked.

I'm curious to hear other success stories but maybe it matters if the guy is projected at your own level or if he's above your level. In my example it was D1 to D1.

This guy will be D2 to D2. It is also good to hear that this CAN work and I’m not just wasting my time and recruiting dollars.

Maybe the key is to have a lot of interest in BEFORE you inform of red shirt. I typically only have AP and at most 3 HV's before I inform.

Yes, my plan is to inform him at the cycle before signings start (since he is early signing pref). By then I will have almost 400 APs, 6 HVs, and a CV on him. I hope it’s enough.

It's a pretty big risk.

Very big. I agree with you, I've never seen it. It really doesn't make sense to try in my opinion. You're trying to sign guys you want. And redshirting a guy that wants to play.

If this does work now, or ever has, it seems it would be fluke. And not high odds. It's strange to me to work so hard to get a player, only to ruin it in the end by your own doing.

Update: I have just now realized that last cycle, I lost a whole lot of ground on some guys I really needed. This guy was a backup option, but now I really need him.

Sorry if I got anyone’s hopes up for this “experiment”, but I’m just going to sign him because I need his ***.
