I need a new game. Coming from GD. Anyone that has played all three games? I'm not a big basketball guy, but after initial glance it seems like the basketball game is more similar to football with the recruiting and such. The trading in baseball concerns me a bit with potential collusion.

Any opinions/advice much appreciated

Both are good games. HBD has much more depth, but HD is much more similar to GD.

As long as you get into a good HBD world run by a strong commissioner with a good group of owners, collusion should not be a problem. But some worlds can be shitstorms of problems and collusive behavior, so you need to do your due diligence to find the good worlds.

I've played all of them. I'm actually just leaving Hardball Dynasty. It was a good game. But just like GD, after a while it just wore on me. I've been with whatif for 12 years, so it's understandable. Pinetar world rolls in just a day or two. I would suggest trying to get into that one if you are going into HD. Right now I only play Hoops Dynasty.

Sounds like Hoops is the answer. Last thing I need is collusion potential. Experienced that in another baseball game. I still enjoy GD, but with the recent changes the recruiting tool addon doesn't work.

I just left HBD (again) too. The economics are just too gamey, and the development patterns too predictable to be fun for me. It also takes so long to overhaul or change course. HD lets you set a strategy and see the results quickly.

Have played HBD, and it can be "all consuming" if you want to be competitive. It also has a high cost per season, and not for the guy just looking for a fun diversion. For that, play in a Sim League.

Its possible and it does probably happen. But I think its pretty rare. IMO the biggest issue is the potential use of multiple IDs but most people who have them make it known and play fair.

I've played both, and find HD to just be more fun. Recruiting is more fun than the draft/international signings of HD, and you get a quicker return on your decisions. Also it's far easier to recover from a mistake in HD than HBD. If you mess up and commit to an awful contract, or blow a draft, or any other number of things, they can really hamstring your team in a way that is difficult to recover from, especially if you are new to the game. HD is much more forgiving.

I play both and enjoy both; what I like about HD is its scale, or compactness compared to HBD. HBD is so much bigger when you take the entire franchise and its minor league teams into consideration. With HD you might recruit 1-5 players at a time and you only need to worry about a dozen players in total. Nice and tight.
GD is in the middle of these two games, size-wise.

Higher cost per season, but the season lasts twice as long. Basically, it's a wash. And there are more opportunities for credits with HBD.

You wouldn't say its easier to get credits in HD?

I would say that you are just further advanced in HD at the moment than tecwrg. Unless he has multiple IDs. When comparing profiles. Not saying he can't or won't get there. Or even pass all the great coaches and win 50 titles. But it just appears you're further along, and in a position to get more credits.

I've been at this a year, and just starting to understand how it feels to have credits rolling in consistently. If you asked me 6 months ago, I wouldn't even know credits existed.

I decided when 3.0 rolled around that I was never going to pay for this game again. I honestly haven't enjoyed the game since that rollover but can't seem to make myself walk away while I have credits sitting there. Eventually I will get up the gumption to quit in spite of everything, but it hasn't happened yet. And until it does, I'll just keep not paying

And I'm not a great coach. A good coach, yes, but my effort levels in 3.0 have been pretty sub-par. If you're in the right world for D3/D2, or at any elite D1 school, it's not hard to get credits once you develop an understanding of the game. That doesn't happen immediately, but if you put in some effort at some point it does happen.

Only the best of the best coaches can play HBD for free. For one thing, there are no sims. I'm only in D3 Tark at this point. There are 64 human coaches this season. The exact amount of rewards distributed depend upon how the human coaches do, but they could add up to over $400, and are likely to add up to over $350. That's more than 50% of the cost to play being returned in aggregate, assuming everybody buys their teams in 10-packs. The total rewards from a season of HBD are about $130, which amounts to just over 20% of the cost to play, again assuming everybody buys their teams in 10-packs.
