I have a player with decent ratings overall except that he has a 0 contact rating (in his defense his potential contact rating is 9). Can a player like that be useful or will they be overall useless in the major leagues? I am wondering if they would look like Joey Gallo does where power and walks can making up for a horrible batting average or will this guy bat .100 in a full season.

Very much dependent on exactly what his other hit ratings are and possibly where he plays in the field, as for certain defensive positions I value defense much more than bat.

Nova @ DH or 1B is worth playing. I find that EYE and PWR that high work well together. He'll strikeout 200 times but he may pop 30 in a decent season.

But 0 could be really bad don't know that I've ever played anyone similar.


I'm in Salem now, but played in pitcher's parks whwhen this guy had a couple seasons in the bigs. He hit HR, but not enough.

Kirk Potvin was the Home Run Derby champ in Riley World last season. Fairly productive player, I'd say.

Wouldn't have thought a 0 contact could hit .265. I will have to take a closer look at some players.

Potvin's great batting eye and solid vs. RH split makes up for the lack of contact. Think Adam Dunn. Lol

I believe, other factors are used first to determine batting outcome (on-base or out). Contact is used to determine outs. I think he can be successful, he will just strike out a lot when he makes outs. I will find out as I plan on playing one in one of my leagues where the season is just starting.

Less than a 160 strike outs for a power hitting isn't all that much.
