Opinion on Fast-Pace Offense Topic

First off, I know the topic of tempo been mentioned many times, but if someone can refer me a link to the one that best describes the difference between Slow/Medium/High tempo, that would be great.

Generally i'm experienced and I have a good idea on how everything works, but you could never know enough.

My team is gonna be pretty stacked with 11 players who all can serve depth so I have the luxury to exhaust stamina because of it. From what I know for Fast Pace offense to work well, you also need to have high speed and good ball handling and passing skills. My team is gonna be fast and they have great ball handlers, however the passing will be ****, quite a bit. So it makes me wonder if I should have Fast Tempo or the need for passing skills is a real buzz killer.

All fast tempo means is you'll be getting more possessions per game. Has nothing to do whether you're a fast team or great ball handling team. It's good if you want to foul the other team out or lessen the chances of an upset against a weaker team. Although, even then that's not always the best strategy if the team you're playing has better stamina ratings. Or if you have 5 seniors and the rest freshman and sophomores, you might want to play at a slower pace to maximize the amount of time your seniors are getting.

I don't have any proof to back this up, but it seems like playing uptempo tires out us more than tiring out the other team, assuming foul trouble and foul outs aren't involved.

I’m not a very seasoned coach, but I really like running uptempo with my Montana St., Billings team in Knight. It is definitely important to have high team ATH and stamina. I actually don’t have a ton of upperclassmen, but it has worked for me thus far.

I have no clue other than it does give you more possessions...but it also gives the other team more possessions as well. I have been strictly playing uptempo against sims lately and have noticed a lot less frustrating outcomes...I have not been upset by a sim at the rate I was getting upset by running normal or slow down. Maybe this is because I am giving the sim more shots and thus "normalizing" them more than if they were facing me running a normal tempo...if that makes any sense? I suck at explaining things.

Basically if I run slowdown and they take 40 shots in a game but are "hot" during those 40 shots I am screwed, but by running up tempo they may get 55 shots, which makes it harder for them to stay hot longer.

Speed and ballhandling matter a lot, precisely because playing uptempo means you are going to bank on winning the possessions game. If you don’t have speed and ballhandling advantages, playing uptempo is more likely to backfire, because you’re going to turn it over a lot.

Passing kind of depends on what set youre playing. IMO, passing is more necessary for triangle and flex than it is for motion and uptempo; I would not hesitate to run uptempo with a mediocre passing motion or FB team, provided I was confident about my speed/BH advantages. I would think hard about flex, and would lean against it with triangle, without good passing.

Thanks guys for the good responds guys. Seems that as a tournament bound DI team that most of my matches i'll have speed and BH advantage and therefore can run the uptempo, against the elite schools i may have readjust, that was kind of what my initial gut feeling told me about fast pace.

Now if someone can refer me to the 'best' link that compares all the 3 tempo stages, their strengths and weaknesses, that would be great.
