If you don’t sign coaches Topic

Can someone refresh me as to what happens if you don’t sign any coaches?

i haven’t signed coaches for a couple slots in the majors and minors. Was wondering what happens at the end of the negotiation period. There are about 20 ML coaches left st each position but none of them so far have been willing to accept $600k

You'll get scrub coaches like you get walk-ons in Hoops and Gridiron Dynasty.

Thanks. They really ought to change that tho. Guys should be willing to go down a level or take pay cuts at the end

I've had success lowballing major league coaches on the morning of the final day. Even more at the PM1 /mid-day cycle. But I usually offer more than the minimum, and I haven't tried depending on any of them to willingly drop back to the minors. You're in the hands of the AI if you do that.

I just don't find myself caring enough about the coaches to try and finesse a slightly better one. It might be worth it but it's just about my least favorite part of the game.

I think you should be able to auto-rehire your entire staff unless someone retires. In real life, NO baseball coach at ANY level EVER gives up a paying gig to "look at other options."

I have had luck with the sim hiring ML bench coaches with the minimum. I have gotten pretty decent ML bench coach from those still available. I haven't been brave enough to hire a hitting or pitching coach that way. Actually just won a WS with a 600k bench coach signing.

That's cool. IMO the ML bench coach is the least important of all. Frankly, I only spend extra on them if I have some sort of sentimental attachment, which I'm sad to say happens. If you wait to near the end and lowball three of them, you'll be hard pressed to find any appreciable difference through the available ones anyway. Usually around 75 Strategy coaches start wanting to be a ML bench coach, then never get hired. So there's a huge backlog of out of work wannabes.

Yeah, that is one crazy part of this game to me. I can't name a single real life MLB bench coach. I can name plenty of hitting pitching coaches in the MLB and yet bench coaches on this game get 2.5/3 million sometimes.

1) I haven't spent much more than the minimum on a ML HC, PC, or BC since I can remember. Certainly never more than $1.2M. BC usually minimum.
2) I set argumentative to zero and completely ignore the strategy rating on the BC, focusing instead on hitting, pitching, fielding, and baserunning ratings.

Baseball coaches move to other teams sometimes for a raise, sometimes for a better position and sometimes just to work with someone they like.

That being said - coach hiring in this game is not really fun, and takes way too long. The differences between a 90 coach and a 70 coach are also vague at best.

Just thinking I'll piggyback on what I said earlier and what kschoenberg just said too...

One of my worlds just rolled this morning. My AAA PC now wants to jump to the majors. His Pitching IQ rating just hit 74, earlier I said 75 seems to trigger the jump to the majors for most coaches. If the differences between 90 and 70 are vague at best... I'm totally open to that idea...

Is the game maybe telling us that 74 IQ is, in fact, "Good Enough"?

Both the Brewers pitching and hitting coaches did just that this year. Walked away and took the same position on another team.

The AI follows three steps when looking to auto-hire coaches:

  1. It looks to see if the owner's previous coach is available at that level and role, if he is, he is assigned.
  2. It then looks for coaches who fit the specific role/level combination, if anyone is available, they are assigned.
  3. The final action is to just fill the role.
