best D2 recruit ever solved - a 5 star signed Topic

In tark Hawaii Pacific signed a 5 star recruit. Of course the DI Hawaii didnt have a human coach until this off season but I bet this may be the flukiest signing ever. Kudos to tex for getting him to sign though.

Did the kid have a close to home pref? That's a powerful one, could go a long way toward explaining how UCLA lost this battle.

Hats off to Tex for landing him, and to piman (UCLA) who was completely gracious about this rather silly result.

Are the chances he leaves early lower than if he went to UCLA?

Can’t find the player, have tried. Can you send link?

This will be interesting to see if he leaves early, or even gets drafted at all.

i'll be watching as well. He's very good. And no close to home preference.

My guess is that UCLA scared off other teams and he wasn't a real high priority for piman because of the threat of leaving early.

UCLA was in battles with USC for two other studs which I'm sure consumed the APs and money. Nothing much left for trips to Hawaii.

I think tex should redshirt him

Can’t imagine a world in which he wasn’t promised minutes

This is correct. Also battled UNLV first session. On this kid I had just done enough to open options. Something like 41 APs, scholarship, 20 minutes and a start. Everyone else was very low going into the second session. Never saw Tex coming, kudos to him for completely outsmarting me. No idea what he spent to knock me to moderate. I think the only preference was strong defense (maybe?), which I was good on. For the record the kid is good, not one of those borderline 5* kids that just gets passed over because he's overrated. This kid is a true 5* and an almost certain EE kid.

A D3 team lost a jr to early entry recently, if I recall. Being on a D2 team will not keep him safe.

This becomes example A1 of how it absolutely does not pay to be risk averse in 3.0. I’d have used the same strategy as Tex (did a few times at Abilene Christian, though my targets were not as softly prioritized, and it never panned out).

Well done, Tex, and a good lesson for folks in a commodity game - prioritization matters a lot, you can’t depend on appearances.

Not to be outdone - I inherited this underachiever

4 years of college (SIM) : - 2 points net increase.

amazing result and honestly pretty stupid, but good for tex. i had this recruit on my list at Temple (D range prestige)--always like to scout out the least populated areas. once i saw UCLA's name pop up i didn't bother even opening the scholarship. whoops.
