Use it all the time but never set it to use the closer only in save situations

all the bad teams i run out there its hard to get the usage out of a closer who has more than 60 IP unless he can go a couple innings

In a perfect world, I wouldn't. And often times I won't use my best reliever there. I just want a solid 50-60 inning guy who won't blow many 2 or 3 run leads.

In no restriction leagues, I don’t.

In roster twist leagues, where I have a great reliever that only has 25-40 IP, I do.

edit: right now I have Ken Giles, Steve Karsay, and Chris Sampson at closer. The other teams don’t have a closer

I stopped using the closer role many years ago.

I almost never do though every now and then I'll use 2 30 inning or less guys in a closer a and b tandem and a 5-10 pitch count

I tend to only use it if I have a dominant reliever with relatively few innings (40 or less)

I use it fairly frequently because SLB doesn't employ a pitching role akin to, e.g., the "stopper" role in OOTP. Based on my reading of the box scores I think it's fair to say that the way Sparky uses "Closer A" does put guys in a higher median leverage situation than "Setup A," so if there is one clearly 'best' guy I'll tend to make him the closer. I'm less likely to do it if the guy has 50+ innings, but I have been known to use an 80+ inning guy as a Closer A available in the 8th with a pitch count of 30/40 or so. If they have the IP/game it can work out if the team wins often enough. But they still frequently don't come in until the 9th, and you won't get 80+ innings out of that guy on an 81-win team in a neutral park.

I would have clicked on "most of the time" had it been an option. I often use a player with 38-45 IPs as closer A and back him up with a low RLIP guy as closer B. Can move them out into other set up roles if they haven't been used for a several games to maximize their IPs. Occasionally I'll put a guy like Niggeling (i.e. 50+ IP) into the closer role and manage his availability between 8th and 9th inning depending on usage.

I, too, usually have a closer. I know the arguments about using your best guy at the highest leverage times, and how that's often not in the 9th inning, but I like trying to make this feel as much like a real baseball team as possible, and it's fun to have a guy rack up saves, or have a scapegoat when your team blows saves!
