The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for an owner for the Philadelphia Philles. The Phillies are a solid team with several long term stars (Fred McGriff, Juan Gonzalez, Matt Williams, all with great 1995's), plus other solid players like C Brian Johnson (starting his career), OF Gregg Jefferies, OF Otis Nixon and SS Wil Cordero. They bring back 1,317 IPs, with 4 1/2 decent starters and five excellent relievers (1,395 IPs going into the draft). They will pick #14 in the 24-team draft., which is about to begin.
TAKEN: The Detroit Tigers (which are available for free for the next two seasons) have lots of quality hitters (Chuck Knoblauch is awesome in 1995, JT Snow, Greg Vaughn with monster years in '96,'98-'00, Harold Baines, Ozzie Guillen), but the pitching staff needs rebuilding (Drabek and Ken Hill are the only SPs in 1995 with 200+ IPs). The Tigers will pick #10.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 1995, Derek Jeter, Brian Giles, Jorge Posada, Billy Wagner and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible (just prospects) until 1996 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who first played in MLB in 1995, but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 1995 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
We originally started with the 1984 season and played it out, and then restarted in 1962, so the league has been around for a long time, with very little turnover.
