Basic Concept
This league will cover multiple eras across the history of MLB, allowing us to use players from multiple eras much more quickly than progressing one season at a time. We will begin with four seasons, each 30 years apart. They will be 1901, 1931, 1961, and 1991. By choosing these seasons, we'll be getting a large slice of different eras while also making sure that no player will simultaneously be in the league with two seasons. Assuming the league is still vibrant, once we complete the 1930/1960/1990/2020 season; we will roll back to the same original seasons (this time only drafting rookies in those years).
Initial Draft
The initial draft will be broken down into four "mini-drafts" with each being limited to a single season. We will draft seven players from 1991 and six players from each of the other three time periods for a total of 25 players. Draft order for each era will be determined at random and will by snake style format. Ballparks will be drafted during the 1991 draft and can be any park in the sim. The first mini-draft will start with 1901 and finish with 1991.
Note--to speed things up, if someone will help with running the drafts, we can run two drafts at the same time. 1901 & 1931 to start.... and then finish up with 1961 & 1991.
Free Agent Draft
At the end of each season, there will be a two round free agent draft. Each team will name their keepers for the season and designate between 3-5 of these keepers as "franchise players". The player pool for this draft will be all keepers who are not designated as franchise players. No team may lose more than three players in the free agent draft. Draft order for this round will be determined at random with round two being snake style.
Franchise Players
Teams that make the playoffs can designate only 3 franchise players. Teams that miss the playoffs and finish below .500 can designate 4 franchise players. Teams that miss the playoffs and finish at or above .500 can designate 5 franchise players. The purpose for allowing more franchise players for a .500+ team vs. a sub .500 team is to provide incentive for teams to try to win even when they aren't good enough to make the playoffs (i.e. discourage tanking).
Rookie Draft
After the conclusion of the free agent draft, we will hold the rookie draft. All rookies from the next consecutive seasons will be thrown into the draft pool. For example, in season two, the rookie pool will be from 1902, 1932, 1962, and 1992. Draft order for the rookie draft will be based on W/L record and playoff results; worst to first for non-playoff teams, then worst to first for 1st round losers, worst to first for 2nd round losers, etc. Draft order will NOT snake for the rookie draft.
Other Rules
- League Format and Alignment: Standard WIS Format (24 Teams). Alignment will be random in year one and stay the same for ten seasons, and then randomly realign on the 11th season, 21st season, etc. Basically every time we hit seasons ending in "1", we'll realign.
- No Salary Cap
- League Settings:
- No DH
- No AAA
- No WW
- Trades allowed (max vetoes)
- Injuries turned on
- Live Play not allowed
- Injured Reserve: A player who drops out of the sim for one or more seasons may be placed on a team's injured reserve list, provided he is brought back to active status as soon as he returns to the sim.
- Non-Keepers: All "non-keepers" will be removed from the available player pool and can't be drafted during the free agent or rookie draft. These players are eligible to come back once their rookie season is available again.
