With the current version of recruiting, I have never redshirted a player without informing him ahead of time. If you do not inform them, will they always take a work ethic hit if I try to do it now?

I have never informed of a redshirt and more often than not can get someone to take it without WE penalty. It isn't always my first choice but someone usually will.

Based on my experience, you'll usually get away with it if they didn't have a "wants to play" preference and if you have better players at his position on your roster.
