“An A+ team will knock down a B+ team to moderate, assuming both teams have the same recruiting effort and all the preferences are the same for both teams, therefore, there is no way, just because the C- team has the rebuild preference, they are going to get to "high" and overtake the A+ team for that recruit.”

This is not even close to my experience. The range is much closer to 2 grade levels than 1. What is your evidence for this claim?
I 100% agree with Shoe on this one. The value of prestige likely hasn't changed between 2.0 and 3.0 but it's no longer the end-all-be-all in recruiting like it was in 2.0. The more preferences the recruit has listed the less prestige matters. When there are 4 or 5 preferences prestige is only 1/5th or 1/6th of the equation. That's why C- teams can get into signing range against A+ programs. Heck, we've seen a few examples of D2 programs getting into signing range and beating A+ D1 programs for kids.

I landed the #1 C in the country against 2 other A+ prestige schools when I was a C- program because preferences matched well with me. I certainly didn't have anything close to 80 APs/cycle on the guy. My goal was to get within signing range, I did (around 20%, if I recall correctly) and won the recruit. I'm of the opinion trying for guys like this (without decimating the rest of your class) is the way to go. Landing a program-changer at a smaller school is 5x more impactful than an A+ school landing this guy. And yeah, they might leave early but if they're a top 5 pick you get a prestige bump the following season.
I'm not saying it's 100% impossible for a C prestige team to land a top recruit. It depends on the amount of effort the A prestige team is putting in, Preferences do matter and maybe that C- team "may" have a chance, but the problem is the preferences that the OP had isn't going to be enough to overcome an A+ team putting in 20 HVs/ 1 CV start and 25 minutes, assuming both teams put in the same amount of effort. An A+ team will knock down a B+ team to moderate, assuming both teams have the same recruiting effort and all the preferences are the same for both teams, therefore, there is no way, just because the C- team has the rebuild preference, they are going to get to "high" and overtake the A+ team for that recruit.

I'm actually curious darnoc what those preferences were compared to the opponent you were recruiting against and if you have that information, how much attention did they put into that recruit?
I don't have the exact numbers for the battle. I can tell you it was a 3 or 4 team battle and the recruit had 4-ish preferences listed. I was C-, UCLA was A+, and then another 1 or 2 A prestige programs were in the mix as well.

I know I wasn't pouring APs into the recruit because I had a ton of openings and it was the first season of a rebuild (I also happen to think the value of APs is wildly over-rated in the forums). But I know the A+ school, UCLA, went "all-in" with HV/CV/start/minutes, as did I. Again, my only goal was to get into signing range for that kid to have a shot at winning him and it happened to work out.

Would you say a rebuild preference is equal to one letter grade of prestige? So if a C+ prestige team and a B+ prestige team are both on the same recruit and all other preferences are even the rebuild preference should put them about even?

Really kind of depends on what other preferences are there. If it’s the only preference, it’s effect is going to be more pronounced than that, I think. The more preferences there are, the less any single one can swing the balance.

I recently came across one of the top recruits in the country who wants a rebuild situation and it has me curious as I match up really well with his preferences which I’ve listed below. My cause for concern is the fact that all the elite (high prestige) schools will no doubt be in on him and my question here is will prestige ultimately trump wants rebuild preference or do C- teams such as myself have a shot at players like this?

Wants to play- very good (promise start, 25 min)
Wants rebuild- good
Motion- very good
Man to man- very good
Long time coach- neutral
It will help counter balance the prestige advantage of other teams but.....in this particular case there is another factor that will work against you- Most high prestige programs have long time coaches which gives them a Very Good preference in the last category.

That has jumped up to bite me in the past.

Some higher prestige teams don't like the idea of the possibility of getting a 5 star recruit for only 2 years, so at times there will be recruits that slip through the cracks and drop down to B and C prestige teams, especially in areas that aren't very heavily populated with schools, such as out west for D-1.
What world is this in? I'd be interested in joining.
Every A+ school that I've been near has shown an insatiable and ravenous appetite. It's piggery and gluttony. None of them are worried about getting a 2-year EE.

I've found that prestige means a ton.

I forgot to check in on this during RS2, but I see the OP ended up with the recruit, which is a huge score. Anyone care to let us in on if/how a battle played out?
