I'm interested in some takes on Preseason All-Americans. I have never paid enough attention to get a good perspective on the process. It was always my impression that they were largely based on the previous season's performance. In general, when I've seen people complain on the forums that their guy didn't get a nod, it's because he's all promise and no results. Great ratings, but he only played 9 MPG last season, so he's not on the list.

So for some reason I decided to open it up this season, and I can't help noticing that my guy Tom Borders isn't on the list. This is a guy who was a First-Team All-American last season. Unfortunately I can't go back and look at who the other First Team AA's were. I don't think I knew Borders was First Team until I opened up his player page to check after being surprised he wasn't a preseason AA.

But if Borders isn't a Preseason All-American, and guys with great ratings but limited sample sizes in past performance aren't Preseason All-Americans, how do they pick the Preseason All-Americans?

so, not only is your guy not 1st team, hes not 2nd or 3rd or even honorable mention.
and none of the other guys had stats last season anywhere near borders.

looking at their ratings, i guess you could make a case that they have better ratings than borders. i mean, i really dont believe that, but you could make a case if you put heavy emphasis on sp, bh, pa and deemphasized his great pr, st, ft, ath, de.

i wonder if there is a random component? they lump all the players together who are pretty good and then roll the dice?

i do think its strange when a kid is an underclassman at team AA and then not preseason AA the next season. doesnt make sense.

can you reference posts where guys with best ratings were passed over and the conclusion was that preseason AA was based fairly heavily on last seasons stats?
