I haven't played in a while but might give this a go

Great! There's teams that span every decade from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, and up to today. I'm partial to the 80s and 90s... and also the current decade. You might consider the 12 years from 83-84 (Magic) to 94-95 (Stockton). You get some pretty good years of Jordan, Rodman, and the Admiral in there too. That's got to be a good team, and I don't think anyone has those exact 12 years either. But take whatever 12 years you like best!
