Medical Redshirt Question Topic

Does anyone know how to apply for a medical redshirt? While I don't expect to get one, I have a guy that's going to be out for the season after having played 10 games. I don't see an option to apply for one on the individual player card or in the "manage roster" section. Maybe the fact I can't find an option means the player isn't eligible for one but I figured I'd throw it out to the community to see if they knew.

And here's a follow-up question that I'm just looking for opinions on:

This player is a low WE freshman with lots of greens. I'm not going anywhere in the post-season this year. Should I just player him in hopes of getting his WE up, despite the fact he's injured?

It happens automatically

Is this the same player as the first? He has to be at or above 60% to play.

Whether he’s worth trying to build work ethic, for me, would depend on his cores, and my long term plans for him. If I’m counting on him to develop into a major contributor, then yeah, I probably start him as soon as he’s healthy enough. Assuming I liked his cores enough to recruit him despite the WE problem, that would probably be the situation. If I was going to consider bailing on him after an injury, then he’s probably the kind of player I am looking to just cut when I can find a better option, and then what’s the point of trying to get his WE up?

Thanks, mully-didn’t realize it was automatic.

Shoe-are you saying if he’s below 60% heath the engine won’t allow him to play even if he’s in my depth chart? I know 60% heath is the threshold where the player expects playing time to allow promises to be fulfilled but I didn’t think the engine would sit him automatically. And yes, it’s the same player in both scenarios I posted. He’ll never max out but he’ll be a stud nonetheless. Funniest part is his DUR was 12 when I recruited him.

Right. At 60% they are able to enter a game, so that’s when they will expect PT, and may complain if you made promises. Under 60%, their name will appear on the roster tab with the Red Cross symbol, and although you might have them on the depth chart, they will automatically be set to rest, and will not play.

What was his trainer message like? Did it say out for year? Or was it like he’ll be out 10 days, or whatever?

Yep, you’re correct Shoe. I left him as a starter and he didn’t play. I believe the trainer message said 10 days but he was at 34% and is only regaining 2% each game so, well, math is hard.

I say this a lot, but I hate how injuries work in this game. Durability is completely meaningless 99.9% of the time. And that .1% can screw you hard.

Yep, I am getting screwed right now at Utah by that .1%. Its hard enough during a rebuild, but losing your top player for 4 games and then after those 4 games having him only at 61% is a kick to the crotch.

I just hope HD doesnt turn into HBD, where seasons can get ruined due to injuries. Minor ones here and there are fine, but I am not paying to play a game where it kills my season because of random injuries.

HBD injuries are ridiculous, too. At least there’s a mechanism allowing for some semblance of user choice in HBD, a training and medical budget that (in theory) can be used as a conservative way to mitigate risk. Of course, you can spend 20m on both training and medical, and still have your young star pitcher with 99 durability blow his arm out and lose 6 OVR points. (Yes this happened to me, and yes it is a prime reason I don’t play HBD anymore).

I’m not saying there should be no injury. I am saying injuries should be probability-based consequences of choices users make. Overplaying guys with low stamina; not spending enough minutes on conditioning; add 20 minutes to the practice plan and have guys be able to get some trainer time. There are probably hundreds of ways to do it better than what they do.

Yep, whats the point of having a health rating of 99 and going down with a season ending injury....that would mean they dont have 99 health right? I know in real life injuries happen....but again, this isnt real life, I dont want to pay to play a game that has injuries derail either my teams season or my opponents. Like you, its a main reason why I stopped playing HBD.

Speaking of which, did they ramp up injuries lately? I have played against at least 3 teams in the last two weeks that have had injured players. I dont remember ever seeing that many injuries, not too mention the one that happened to me.

i dont think injuries ramped up.

As a side note - I love when my trainer sends the "my player died... just kidding" message. Gets me everytime.
