If I release a player from my franchise how much of the salary will I be on the hook for. Is it 50% of salary per year for the remainder of the contract? Or some other formula. Thanks in advance.

If you release a player outright his full salary stays on your cap for the duration of the contract. Any other team can pick him up and they will only count the veteran minimum against their cap.

The above is accurate.

If another team claims him on waivers, the new team is responsible for the entire salary. Otherwise, the above is true.

I do not think this is true. Once he is released im sure the original team must pay the contract they originally agreed upon.

Both these cases are true. Released and Waived are different circumstances.

When you release a player, they go on the WW. If you claim a released player, the former team is on the hook.

If you designate a player and put him on waivers a team that claims him would have to pay his salary, if you release him then a claiming team would only pay the ML min while you pay the remainder of his salary. Best to designate with waivers so you'll open up a slot on the 40 man and possibly recoup his salary. If he's underproducing you have a shot, if it was a bad signing you're screwed.
