The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a new owner for the Chicago Cubs. We are approaching game 120, and the team is currently sitting in the spot for pick number 4 in a very deep draft. Coming off a rebuild, this team is solid for the long term, with numerous long-term batters (Polanco at 2nd, Melvin Mora at 3B/SS, Kevin Millar at 1B/3B, and outfielders Geoff Jenkins, Reggie Sanders and Trot Nixon all having many future good years. Pitching used to be disastrous, but in the last draft the focus was on future seasons, and Joel Pineiro and Paul Byrd have many very good future years, plus Dustin Hermanson is good in 2001 and 2004. Now you get the #4 pick, unless the team gets another win in the three remaining games (each would move it up one slot). This draft is tremendous, with Pujols and Ichiro the top HOF hitters, but given this team's solid batting order, CC Sabathia, Roy Oswalt, Carlos Zambrano, Josh Beckett, and others are available to choose from. Worst case for pitching, at #4, is still someone awesome. This team will compete long term if you grab a stud starter. If you want to grab a stud pitcher without a great 2001, you could go for another good pick in 2002 and be really loaded.

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 2001, P Josh Beckett, P Carlos Zambrano and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 2002 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2001 season, and a DH is used in the AL.

Please sitemail if interested, and for further explanation of the rules.
