The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a new owner for the Houston Astros (or you can have them be the Colorado Rockies). We just started on the clock, and the Astros got SS David Eckstein, who has many great years (WAR of 20.4). This team is solid for 2001: 1396IP, 1.33/.256/3.96 (including Russ Ortiz at 219IP, 1.27/.232/3.29 and Brad Penny at 205IP, 1.16/.240/3.69), and great hitting at .277/.357/.479, 201HRs (2B Brett Boone at .331/.372/.578, 31HRs; 3B Scott Rolen at .289/.378/.498, 25HRs, A-/A+; OF Gary Sheffield at .311/.417/.583, 36HRs, plus several others with very good OBPs, SLGs and HR rates). Three starting pitchers are good for 4+ years, and Boone, Rolen and Sheffield are around for a long time.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 2001, P Josh Beckett, P Carlos Zambrano and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 2002 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2001 season, and a DH is used in the AL. We have been around for over 60 seasons, and the rules are tight to prevent tanking. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 24 team league.
Please sitemail if interested, and for further explanation of the rules.
