With the lack of sports tonight, I decided to gather some research on my recruiting history, players drafted and EEs for my Washington team in Wooden world. These numbers are from season 92 to 113. I know it is a small sample size and I am not sure if they are helpful in anyway, but I thought I'd share them anyway. Moral of the story is, if you sign a 5 star player, don't be surprised or angry when they go EE.

• I have signed 74 players from season 92 to 113
  • 16 zero star players (22%)
  • 2 one star players (3%)
  • 8 two star players (11%)
  • 10 three star players (14%)
  • 17 four star players (23%)
  • 21 five star players (28%)
• 39 of the 74 (53%) players signed during that period were drafted
• Drafted % by star rating
  • 0 of 16 zero star players drafted (0%)
  • 1 of 2 one star players drafted (50%)
  • 3 of 8 two star players drafted (38%)
  • 3 of 10 three star players drafted (30%)
  • 11 of 17 four star players drafted (65%)
  • 21 of 21 five star players drafted (100%)
• 22 of the 39 (56%) Drafted players went EE
• % chance of being an EE by star rating
  • 0 of 16 zero star players went EE (0%)
  • 0 of 2 one star players went EE (0%)
  • 1 of 8 two star players went EE (13%)
  • 1 of 10 three star players went EE (10%)
  • 4 of 17 four star players went EE (24%)
  • 16 of 21 five star players went EE (76%)
• EE's by year
  • 16 of my 22 EEs left after their Jr season (73%)
  • 5 of my 22 EEs left after their So season (23%) - 4 of the 5 that left after So. were 5 star
  • 1 of my 22 EEs left after their Fr season (4%) - The one player was a 5 star

Thanks. I’ve been trying to figure out why some talented recruits stay in school and why some go. Not sure if anyone has good research on the topic, but I have been focused on recruiting ranking, WE/GPA and key category ratings such as PER and LP.

my take is this - the draft board is the be-all and end-all of where recruits rank based on everything about their ratings. then, national all americans (stat based, primarily) get a slight bump, and NT success is a moderate factor. once you have that final list, its 100% luck of the dice roll.

i think that's it. your quest to figure out why some stay and some leave, based on things like lp, per, we - IMO is doomed, because its what i just said above. also when i say 'my take', its not so much like anything i figured out as much as exactly what seble said when he put out the big board, combined with my lack of a reason to think its not the full story (which is a position i take all the time, based on admin comments, so...)

anyway, there used to be a hidden personality factor, which was super awesome. well, it wasn't hidden, as much as not super obvious. but it really helped predictability. i wish they'd bring it back, but make it public. that would be cool IMO to add some diversity. i don't think it should impact lottery picks much, but 2nd rounders, i think it should.
