Who would you draft with the #1 pick? Topic

Age Thr Overall Dur Hth MkUp Stam Acc vL vR Vel Gb 1 2 3 4 5
A 18 L 81 22 100 91 100 98 89 59 40 57 80 81 74 73 54
B 18 R 87 36 76 96 95 95 71 78 40 75 97 65 72 73 21
C 20 L 86 33 85 98 87 89 98 71 93 39 90 74 45 41 0

I've got the #1 draft pick. Here are the 3 top candidates IMO.
I'm looking for the guy who could turn into a true #1 pitcher, got plenty of #2's and #3's.

Concerns about projected ratings:
Player A - 59 rating vR a big concern ; 22 durability (so never a 3 start guy in a 7 game playoff series).
Player B - nothing overly concerning, just seems 2nd best at everything, vL & vR weak for a #1 starter
Player C - 20yo (so lack of upside development), pitches 3/4 are weak (Player A & B are 4 pitch pitchers), if pitch scout rating for #2 pitch is wrong - uh oh, then this guy not a #1 pick

Benefits about projected ratings:
Player A - 4 pitch pitcher, though Pitch 1 low.
Player B - 4 pitch pitcher (weaker than Player A though), 36 durability makes him a 3 start candidate in 7 game series.
Player C - 33 durability, best vL & vR rating of trio

Please comment on who you would select, or who you would avoid, or both, and why. Thanks.

B is the best of the 3 in my opinion, but I personally don't see any of them as true #1's. That 59 vsR for #1 would scare the hell out me as guys typically don't hit their projected ratings anyways. Are there any stud hitters in the draft?

B-- but what's your college and HS scouting budget?

College = 17
HS = 16

Yep. Based on those Dur/Sta projections, I question the scouting budgets. If they're less than $20 million, I'm guessing those projections are all very much on the high side.

OK, not terrible, but again, your projections are likely all on the high side. If I'm rolling the dice on these three guys, and I do agree with your analysis in the first post, I'm going with Player B. But he's not a sure thing by any means with these budgets.

36/95 is a pretty crazy DUR/STA combo, but I can see the projections being off on that. I actually like #3 a good bit too since he would be elite against lefties. Ultimately I would consider your ballpark. If you're hitters ballpark, maybe #2 is the best option. If not, #3 might be my choice.

Also side note: - What definition of #1 are we talking here? This has always been an interesting point to me when talking about the MLB. #1's were coined when the league had half the amount of teams, so I feel like most people mean a SP who's one of the best 16 or so in the league. I could see an argument that maybe #2/3 in the example above don't fit that. Technically speaking though, a #1 would mean a top 32 Starting Pitcher, which I would absolutely see #2/#3 and potentially even #1. And I would argue some people even really mean like top 5/10 pitcher when they say #1 too.

In HBD my definition of a #1 is the staff ace who ideally is Top 10 in the league, or has Top 10 tools and most importantly can take the ball 5-6 times across two 7 game series.

Yeah, I think you've got the right idea. You're talking about a guy who wins playoff games. It's like starting QBs, you either have one or you don't.

I am going with the consensus here. Those left handed starters lure out all the R handed hitters anyway.

#2 all the way.
