i think hes a SF. rebounding is just so important at the 4 and 5, playing a 23 reb guy there is brutal. i think you could tolerate it OK at the 4 if you have the right team i guess, but its going to hurt pretty well. i can see the argument for the 4 especially in the press but the 5 is well beyond what i would consider reasonable use of the player. in a 3-2 it seems like he can only be tolerated at the 3 because the blk is a substantial liability.
it seems like the clear tradeoff is his terrible reb and blk at the 4, or his weak passing and speed (and rebounding i suppose) at the 3. in general, i think he's fine from a fg% defense standpoint, at the 3 - his ath/def is so excellent, that even the face of crappy speed, hes still a solid perimeter defender. clearly better than a 65/65/65 guy i'd say - and that guy, from what i understand about d3, would be fine. he'll suffer a bit on TO generation though, which is particularly concerning in the press - i kinda am more on the fence in the press, but probably still a 3. in anything else i think its a fairly easy call (3). i am a huge fan of speed at the 1-3, to the point i have to restrain myself - but i do not believe individual speed matchups are important in this game. i don't think a fast sf has a huge advantage over him, its really about the defender's perimeter defense as a whole, and in that regard he's quite adequate.
