When prepping for a team that clearly shoots a lot of threes, when is it appropriate to go +5? What are the negatives of going to such an extreme?

What defense? How many threes are we talking about? Who does the bulk of the scoring?

i could see a reasonable argument for anything in the 40-50 range being the starting point where you go +5. i personally probably start using it in the low to mid 40s, but obviously situations vary. by 50% its probably mandatory.

I like to stay down low. If someone is taking 30 threes per game I'll go +3, but that's probably the farthest I've had to go in a while. Maybe I'm doing this wrong. Whatever Gil says is probably better.

Here is an example of a game I went +5 in: Cheyney U. vs. Mansfield.

I do it every so often. When someone has no post or driving presence you’re scared of, I’ll go +5. It’s very rare though.

Yeah the team in question shoots more threes than that SB. So I guess that's the play.

Thanks. I will let you know how it works;)

I wouldn't agree with viewing it by total 3FGA. The reason I did it to Mansfield was because every one of his scorers was a shooter. In your game, they may take more 3FGA, but they still may have presence driving or in the post.

4 gaurds score almost 70% of their points and half of the team points are come from 3s. My team is much deeper in big men. Will see

I might go +4 and adjust at half if losing. Still allows you to play a half at +5 possibly.

How much does defensive positioning effect the outcome would you say?

I think it matters. Pls five both halves seemed to work. They went 9 for 36. Next up Millsaps??
