Another R/S Question Topic

Ok....I'm probably not going to be very competitive again next season. I'm a C- D3 team and probably going to be C- again next year. I'm maybe overshooting here, but since next season will be kind of another "throw away" year, I'm debating R/S a D2 player to save a year of eligibility until my team is better. Any chance a D2 player will take a R/S from a C- D3 team?
He has no preference on "wants to play"

There is definitely a chance. Worst case scenario is that you apply the redshirt, he freaks out and loses WE, and then you remove it and his WE goes back to normal.

I wouldn't use inform of RS if that's what you're talking about. I'd just sign him and try to RS him. You can definitely RS DII prospects at the DIII level.

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure if I'll even land this guy, but if I do, I'll definitely employ your suggestion.

I agree with one caveat: if nobody else is on the player, inform him of the RS. You can pull this back if a competition emerges.

Sometimes if you do it and even if you pull back you lose effort or fall off the considering list. I would just sign the dude then try to RS.

I've always treated this as a Forum Fact. I've seen it repeated over and over, but I "inform of RS" occasionally and have never seen any dramatic consequences.

Happened to me a few weeks ago. I took over a new team in the second recruiting session. Was all alone on a target and informed him of redshirt. All interest was gone and couldn't get it back. Had to move on to another target. I think the rule of thumb is to only use the inform option if you only want the player if he will accept a redshirt.

I assume this player had the wants to play preference. Otherwise that sounds like a bug; kid wouldn't care about redshirting that much
