Division placement? Topic

Hi, all! Noob here with a question about division placement in an open league: I started a new team yesterday, and when I finished them off I was placed in a division with relative newcomers. Then, when the league was finalized my team had been moved in divisions -- from the AL Central to the NL East, so it wasn't even the same league. And of course the other owners in this division have about 8,000 combined titles, so I probably get to have my teeth pounded in even harder over the next 54 days.
What happened here? Is this a strategic thing where you need to watch your division placement as the league is finalizing, or what? I've not been able to find any discussion of this on the forums.
Thanks!

WIS randomly allocates the teams once the league is full. You cannot engineer your division placement in an open league.

prdoctor,

First of all your team looks pretty good. The pitching looks very good, though I am not sure what Ramirez and Shipley are there for - assuming you have time to leave the league and work on it you might want to consolidate that money into one good pitcher instead of two bad ones. The rest are good.

The offense doesn't look bad - stolen base teams have had a lot of success here, though catchers with A+ arms (12 in the search engine in the Draft Center) can shut them down. The weak part is the team OBP, which at .333 overall is probably not world beating. But the park will help your defense against power hitting teams.

But I don't see the league being full - I only see 6 teams in it right now, and none have won championships - maybe you pulled your team out of the league you are mentioning here? But contrarian23 is quite right, placement of teams in OL in divisions is completely random by the AI here.

Crash test dummies is a great name for a team by a new player here.

But your first team did very well - nearly .500 and for a first time here that is amazing actually. So, I would not panic. But do try to spend money on quality where possible and in the future look for a little more OBP on offense, especially if you are not working on power hitting teams.

Good luck.

Prof, thanks for the kind words. Looks like the league I am referring to isn't posted to my profile yet -- it begins play tomorrow. The one you looked at was my spring training (test) team, and I am hoping the next version is better on offense. If nothing else it'll be fun to test out, and the box scores will keep coming in during the pandemic.
