Recruiting Preferences Topic

Hey, all. 3.0 "Newb" in season 3, and still trying to figure out preferences and their effect. I've learned so much reading these forums so I was hoping for some help...

1) Do preference changes during the season affect recruiting efforts? For example, if my team keeps going back and forth from Good to Neutral in perimeter offense, how does that affect recruiting?

2) Suppose I get a prestige bump after the season. Will I get the bump before RS2? Does that go into affect right away on recruiting efforts?

3) Are there D3 conferences that are Strong Conference according to recruiting prestige? What is that threshold? Can that change before RS2?

4) How is Strong Defense calculated and what is that threshold?

Thanks in advance!

(1) Each action is affected by the preference at that point. So if you're putting 20 HV and a CV on a guy, what the preference read at that point is the most important although changes in preferences may influence APs or something as well.

(2) This is a slightly debated topic. The official WIS line is that the new prestige affects RS2 actions but is NOT retroactivity. Some people (minority) seem to doubt the new prestige actually is in effect for RS2 but I see no reason to think that.

(3) No idea about the threshold, but strong conference is based upon conference prestige compared to the rest of the division. So a D3 power conference can be as good (or even better) than the ACC.

(4) Points per possession. Someone has the calculations somewhere, but all I know is they made it literally impossible to get "Very Good."

great answers cub! for the record, i saw my first very good on defense a couple weeks ago. we flipped back down to good and back up so were right on the border. delaware state was pulling about 41% ofg and 30-31% o3pt. i suspect a decent amount of teams hit that figure but it is a pretty crazy bar especially compared to the other very goods which more or less seem like a joke (success - come on). as cub mentioned, there's a few threads where the formula behind defense is laid out, so you can see exactly how it works if you so choose. not sure where to find them, it might be linked from chap's guide to 3.0 recruiting stickied at the top.

well... i was looking for it... but that was soul crushing and i think i need to find a new hobby. or spend more time with my kids. so i guess i am not going to find it

If it is points per poession its Point Allowed / (FGA+TO+.44 * FTA)

I've been using the following formula to track Pts per Possession since 3.0 was launched:

Pts / (FGAt + 0.44 × FTAt – OREBt + TO) will equal points per possession

Pts = Points allowed
FGAt = Opponent Total FGA
FTAt = Opponent Total FTA
OREBt = Opponent Total Offensive Rebounds
TO = Opponent Turnovers

As of today, the breakdown using the above for the boundaries right now are:
81.68% = Very Good
82.03% = Good
95.126% = Good
95.14% = Neutral
108.82% = Neutral
114.32% = Bad
126.15% = Bad
? = Very Bad

Sorry never had a Very Bad defense rating yet so I can't say how much worse you have to be in order to get that.
