Sorry about the crappy pasting. Can't figure it out. This is what I am looking at right now. Was thinking of Chase Field but this only leaves 11,610,563 for my relievers. Not sure I can run with that. Thoughts?

Ultimately what I am looking at right now is 900 IPs out of my starters for 24-25 million. So for 3 man I would go 8-8.3mil each on my starting look or 4 man at 6-6.25mil.

So 24-25 mil for starters, 12-14 mil for my relievers. Current hitters I have are right at 44mil. Leaving 36 for pitching. I'd like to see what I can do with that. What pitcher's should I be looking at to be competitive in an open league. Trying to win a championship with Dale Murphy.
Don't be afraid to spend that 25m on a more weighted scale. Instead of 8-8.3 for all 3, spend 10-11 on one, 8-9 on one, 7-8 on one, or something of that sort.

Yeah that is what I was thinking. I am worried my bullpen might not be enough but if those starters have an IP/G of 6 or more (I know they won't always go that long in games) do you think that might work?

There are some inexpensive arms out there to fill out a bullpen. Open leagues are plagued with overpriced relievers that don't regularly live up to their hype. Look under $2M, even under $1M you can find guys who can by committee shut down the late innings. You can get good mileage from guys under $1.5M capable of 50 or more appearances. I use 1901 Mike O'Neill as a late inning setup or to close. He is $1.3M that can pitch 50+ innings. He can be used to spot start too if need be.

The number of bodies can be important. I usually draft the maximum number. An extra 25 inning guy or two come in handy. 1909 Charlie Smith is widely used. He is under $500k. I can use him anywhere in my pen. 1974 Steve Kline and 1911 Ed Hawk have thrown complete game shutouts for me to give the others a day off.

This is what $850k can buy you:

I agree that $40k/IP pitchers would be better, but at $80M you don't have that kind of money to throw around. Putting 1908 Ed Walsh in your rotation eats deep into your cash. The balance of your staff will be done on a tight budget.

What kind of settings do you put on those pitchers? I started a spring league team to just see how it worked and the recs are 5-10 pitches for all these types of pitchers. Can I up that to 10-15 and be "safe"?

The best I've done so far with Casey. A very consistent season. His numbers vs LH hitters is what I was hoping for when I started this...
