So I recruited five freshman and have a prior red-shirted player from the season prior for a total of six freshman which is the maximum eligible you can have in a class.

However, I’ve been told this only applies to recruiting, and the best option for my current Texas Tech team was to redshirt a sophomore I currently have, which for next season would result in having seven sophomores. The system let me redshirt him and after putting in a ticket to make sure it doesn’t break the system next season, they said this can be done which is news to me.

Has anyone else ever done this?

You'll be fine. You can redshirt guys down into a class.

I think you can get 10 guys in a class right?

You have 4 freshmen (redshirt 1) and recruit 6 guys.

Next year 3 sophomores (redshirt 1) and 7 freshmen.

Next year 2 juniors (redshirt 1) and 8 sophomores.

Next year 1 senior (redshirt him) and 9 juniors.

Next year 10 seniors. Someone should do this challenge!

The issue is that you only ever get recruiting resources for 6, so when you have a class of 7 or more graduate, you’re a little short-handed trying to fill the roster.

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly say its a sustainable long term strategy.
