Just signed an ineligible for DII with a 2.6 high school GPA. Will he always be eligible by the time the season starts?

This close to the end of recruiting it's doubtful but it is possible. Just had it happen to me in Wooden and my guy only had a 2.2 GPA. I had promised him a start and minutes figuring that there was no way a 2.2 would become eligible..........oops.

Eligibility (when being recruited) is tied in to SAT scores and not GPA, right? Someone can correct me if that is wrong.

I'd guess the lower end (2.2) may have a 20% chance of qualifying. 2.4 may have a 40%, 2.6 60%, 2.8 80%.
Overall, I'd estimate that about half of the ineligibles will qualify by the season rollover.

think of it as similar to the Big Board for the likelihood of being drafted. Likely staying, on the fence....

agree with oldwarrior... what used to be interesting is you'd actually get the SAT scores. the requirement to be eligible is a combo GPA + SAT and the lower the GPA, the higher the SAT requirement (hence the effect oldwarrior describes). you used to actually get emails when the player failed the SAT and that would give you a good idea. a guy with a decent gpa and less than atrocious SAT typically made grades. other guys you'd see them score something awful a 2nd time and pretty much gave up hope. now its harder to tell.

No. If they haven't qualified by then, they won't. They'll either show up on your roster as an ineligible or they'll go JuCo.
