I had a class of 5 seniors and 1 walk on which left me a big void in this recruiting go around. I struggled in the beginning of RS2 which left me scrambling, and I came across this guy.

https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/RecruitProfile/Ratings.aspx?rid=5045100

He has blue athleticism, blue rebounding, green defense, blue shot blocking, yellow low post, and everything else is either black, yellow, or red.

I am curious how y'all think this guy will pan out. I am not expecting much progression out of him, but think his attributes that he currently has fit well on my D3 team and I will see some growth over his 4 year stay. I am starting a semi-rebuild and plan on starting him and getting as many minutes as possible from him for his first year.

What are your thoughts?

assume 1 WE players will end with the ratings they started with. its not exactly true but it is a lot closer than you'd probably guess if you haven't had one before.

I'm to assume he won't progress at all, but regress? Never had someone below 20 WE before.

I have a good example for you

Thats really interesting to me. I don't quite understand why if you're giving him consistent minutes, his WE doesn't grow like any other players does?

think of WE growth as a bell curve.

The closer to 1 or to 100, the slower the WE growth.

A guy with a 95 WE may only improve 2-3 points if starting with 20+ minutes. As he gets closer to 100, the growth rate continues to decrease. Conversely, a guy on the other end of the curve with a 5 WE, may also only improve a few points if starting. But as he gets further away from 0, the growth rate slowly increases.
Near the top of the growth curve (40-60) a guy getting those same minutes may gain 8-9 points of WE in a single season.

Yes 1 WE guys wont improve. Period. Sure they'll get a point or two here or there. But as gil said, he is what he is, and will regress in the offseason. No disrespect, (and foges and I are friendly and chat often), you don't want that guy next time around. Live and learn. No biggie

I just signed a guy with 1 WE. I figured his DEF and ATH would be way better than any walk-on I would get

Think Jamarcus Russell of basketball.

I wouldn't want Jamarcus Russell, if he paid me to play for my whatif team.

I would prefer a walkon personally.

The thing that some people don't think about, and I'm not sure about bobby2c situation, but.....

That player is in fact better than a walk on. But that's not what your measuring it against solely. You also have to look at the fact that you will have that player for 4 seasons. Where a walk on will only be on your roster for that 1 season. And then you get resources to go get a better player.

So to me, I agree that the walk on was probably better in this situation. Because now you will have that 1 WE guy hogging a roster spot for 4 seasons

I definitely thought about having him for 4 years compared to 1 with a walk-on. I mainly took him because his ATH is 82 and DEF is 66. Even if he doesn't improve, he will be someone I can bring off the bench.

Thanks for everyones input -- after starting for 5 games he has regressed 1 point lol ... more likely will be cut by the end of the season.

well, at least you can take solace in knowing that if you are playing for the long term, knowledge trumps short term success every step of the way, and therefore, this is a win for you. try stuff, fail, fail better... you'll get there!
