Rest In Peace Tony Taylor Topic

One of my childhood favorites. Always seamed like a genuine good guy. While with the Phils lived in the next township over from me. In his 80s he had a stroke this AM. Fond memories of a good guy on typically bad teams.

in majors for 19 years, last 15 with Phils. Final season they finally made playoffs.

I’ll Hadn’t heard this so thanks for sharing the sad news. I remember when Taylor came to the Tigers and energized the team in the second half of 1971. He was a solid and exciting player on the Bengal’s 1972 squad that lost to the eventual world champ A’s in the playoffs. That team was the “last gasp” squad that comprised the 1968 WS winners. He was called Tony the Tiger by the local fans.

Hadn’t heard that he died, although remember him as a promising 2nd baseman as keystone mate to Ernie Banks in the late 50’s. Traded to the Phils for Don Cardwell who in his first start for the Cubs threw a no hitter against the Cardinals. Unfortunately I’m old enough to remember that game or maybe it’s fortunate that I’m still around to remember it. Tony was a fan favorite in his years with the Cubs.
