1 very bad vs 1 very good preference Topic

Does 1 very bad preference completely offset 1 very good preference?

I think that would be a little too simplistic to be helpful, if you’re putting a lot of stock into that approach. There are ranges within each preference that can be rather wide. And the value you receive is always relative to what other guys are getting.

A target in Colorado Springs wants success and wants to play far from home, for example. B- Colorado State is very good in success and very bad in distance. A+ Colorado might might look the same on paper, but in reality, could be getting quite a bit more value in both cases.

Hey shoe, totally understand I'm wildly simplifying. I guess I'm trying to understand the impact on AP & rate to unlock a scholarship. Not necessarily the threshold on getting to very high or battling another program.

Say I have a team that literally averages under 1 3ptM per game and under 4 3ptA per game so they're pretty much at the very bottom of "very bad" for perimeter offense but they have a very good preference for far from home on a recruit that is over 2000 miles away.

I know there are a ton of other independent variables, but do those two preferences pretty much cancel out in terms of any benefit or harm I'd take in having to put more/less AP to unlock a scholarship? Or does one potentially edge out the other in providing some additional value?

Not sure if I'm making complete sense. It's been a long morning.

Ok, I think I see what you’re getting at. The principle above applies here too, just remove the “relative to other teams” part, and think of it in your own team’s vacuum. If you’re just using this approach to approximate how many AP you might need, there’s no real harm in being simplistic. The difference in required AP in the example is not likely more than a couple. But I would still want to keep a mind on how my potential rivals may stack up against me. In any case, the bigger factors in how many AP required to unlock recruiting actions for recruits are how highly the recruit is ranked, and your team’s division and prestige. And then maybe gil’s mysterious “sense of self” concept. Who knows about that?
