Promised Starts Topic

I know there has been a lot of topics and previous posts about this in the past. However, I just want to make sure I understand correctly and don’t make any mistakes. Currently on my Boise St. team I promised two of the freshman coming in 20 minutes and a start. I have a lot of seniors on my team and really don’t want to start both freshman at the same time for any longer period then I need to.

My goal would be to start one of the freshman for the first seven games until I receive the first complaint email. At that point, I would start the freshman who was sitting In place of the one who is starting. I would do this for the next seven games until I receive a complaint from the other freshman, which at that point I would be forced to start both freshman at the same time. However, this would buy me the first 14 games of the season and be able to get through my tougher nonconference schedule. Additionally, this would also give me half the season for those freshmen to grow into better players.

Is this a viable strategy? From what I understand as long as I for fill their promises after receiving the first complaint email then they should be satisfied and I don’t run a risk of them leaving. Or is it possible, that potentially one or both of the freshman will leave after the season?

I wouldn't advise you to alternate your freshman starts as that will likely give you two recruits which won't meet the minimum 80% threshold.

I think what will happen is the recruit who plays the first 7 games will complain around game #12 due to the fact that up to that point, he's only started 7 of 12 games. Recruit #2 will of complained around game #8 as he would of started only 1 of 8. *BOTH* recruits will likely still send another complaint by game #12 as they will of started only either 5 or 7 games out of 12. Even starting for the remainder of the season, both recruits will only start 19 of 26 which is less than 80% so you likely won't get the OK e-mail for either recruit Even if you plan to continue starting them during the CT (and assuming you advance all the way to the final), they still might not reach 80% at which point you will likely lose both.

In practice, you can only miss around 5 games total for any recruit. If you really don't want to give starts/minutes to new recruits, don't use them during recruiting or be prepared for them to leave after the season is done.

But it seems maybe you can recruit them again during RS2 as WIS doesn't seem to care/mind if coaches break those promises.

I know this doesn't answer the question. But just start the two freshman and you won't have all the headaches. It'll make them better faster. And it won't hardly hurt your team at all. Usually 2 freshman starters is like my minimum! (Unless I have a class of 1 or something)

Starting freshman is not near as bad as it seems. In HD, having a strong bench is way more important, in comparison to what your mind tells you about real life basketball. I actually WANT freshmen starting in most cases.

Alright mom and dad, I won’t break my promises, gosh. And I agree you shouldn’t promise starts and minutes if you don’t want to fulfill them, but you need to, in order to be competitive in recruiting, especially at a lower prestige. But, until WIS cracks down and forces you to fulfill promises 100% and/or be able to re-recruit those players that leave, then why would I not try and cut corners like everyone else.

I’m with top here. It’s always good to make sure you have some good scorers to lead your second unit. Don’t want to start you’re top 5 guys if they’re your top 5 scorers.

Im not sure if the 7 and 7 will work for the second guy rowle. I know players don’t compmain until game 7 but I don’t think they complain every 7. This is risky, and what I’m doing in the future is just staying over 80% the whole year and finishing at 21 of 26.

Basically 1 sit games 5-9, 4 sits in 10 and con. schedule as long as you save them for later in con. Schedule.
