The 80% rule - promised minutes Topic

This guy complained about his minutes after last nights game. He says he’s only getting 22mpg, why would I promise 25? If you remove the foul-out games, he’s at 21.8 mpg, or 87.2% of his promised minutes after 7 games.

Don’t worry, I’m not complaining. Just an example, these guys are out here. Some guys need basically all the minutes you promise.

Sucks that he complained after a game in which he registered the most minutes all season.... and that the game doesn't even count towards the promise because of the foul out!

I don’t regret anything (yet) since this is not a common occurrence, and there should be opportunity to correct it if I can avoid more foul outs. After two games with fatigue set to “getting tired,” I moved him to fairly fresh for a tough stretch of non conference human opponents. For last nights game, I set him to foul trouble only, which may have been a mistake, in retrospect. I was hoping to load up as many as possible, but it may have backfired, because it probably made him play fatigued longer which may have made him more likely to foul out and wipe his total. He’ll likely be straight “getting tired“ against humans and “tired” against sims for the rest of the year.

ETA - with multiple promises to manage, and only 10 eligible players on the roster, target minutes is also a good option for this team.

Yeah I try to stay above 23.8 minutes for 25.

also remember the minutes in recent games could play a factor.

If a guy plays 30 minutes in the first 5 games, then 10 minutes in each of the next 5 games; although he's averaging 20 per game, the recent downtick in minutes in more recent games can lead to a complaint even if he was promised 20.

I have found the opposite Old. If I load up the minutes early then I can lower in the back half of the season with no issues.

this has not been my experience, every case i've seen of this included fouling out pushing the total under the requirement. my understanding is that if you are meeting the full requirement on an average basis, including the various caveats about foul trouble as they've evolved over time, it is impossible to have a complaint.

When is the last point of complaining? Before CT or after?

I’m pretty sure they send their last complaint prior to the CT.

As an update, after a couple more foul outs, Camp stabilized under the “getting tired” fatigue setting, and is happy with his increased minutes, so all seems well at this point, after game 15.

This season for the first time I had a player notify me of being unhappy with his minutes while still being at or above 90% of his goal. Excluding games with foul outs, he was at 91.7%, while including games with fouling out he was at 90.8%. After upping his minutes and being at over 110% of his goal for the next six games including foul outs (115% over four non-foul out games), I got the a-okay email. At this point, he had jumped back up to over 95% overall. I had previously thought that, as long as you maintained 90%, you were safe, but apparently that's not the case, and wondering if it really needs to be 95%.
