1967 Gary Peters Topic

I haven't been improving, so I went to see what type of team was winning in OL. 113 win team had the 1967 Gary Peters. Why would anyone choose Peters in an OL? For the same money, at least 260 innings, a lower ERC# and a lower hr/9 and lefty, I see 1910 Ray Collins, 1937 Cliff Melton, 1905 Doc White, 1988 Danny Jackson, 1908 Eddie Plank, 1916 Lefty Tyler, 1936 Lefty Grove, and 1976 Vida Blue as all better.
But I have never won 113 games, so what I am looking at incorrectly? Any helpful insights will be appreciated.

His OAV is appealing. His BB/9 and HR/9 can be a problem. I've had mixed results with him. I prefer Collins. I would avoid Jackson due to the homers he gives up. Your success may differ from mine...

A 113 win team most likely would win with any pitchers you mentioned. They're probably doing many things well.

To improve, focus on being more efficient with your pitching. Get as low OAV as you can with getting the best WHIP, and keep the ball in the ballpark. Infield defense aids pitching quite a bit. Good range keeps balls in the infield. Above average gloves are good enough. I focus on range over fielding acumen. Avoid D- gloves when possible.

Homers are hard to hit against deadball pitching, but SLG % still helps. Get productive bats. I prefer a lineup that doesn't get themselves out a lot. Good OBP plus high XBH works for me. High batting average is a plus. So is team speed. Get what you can.

Don't draft a HR hitter to play in Petco. Find players more tailored to fit the park. Pete Alonso in Petco will hit .230 with 15HR. A waste of money. Try him in parks like Yankee III or Riverfront. Give him a chance to succeed.

Don't waste money. It is too competitive. Shop wisely. Pay attention to $/IP and $/PA to pick out the bargains.

Have a plan. 1,200 innings X $25k per inning equals $30M. In any park in an open league you can buy a pitching staff that will compete for well under $40M. $35M is realistic if you shop wisely. Don't buy what you don't need. Efficient pitching plus good defense means less pitches per inning, so you can get by with less innings. 1,300 is plenty, especially with AAA. See if you can manage with less. Work at it. As I've said before, the draft center is a weapon if used correctly. Don't be lazy when using it.

Should I be concerned with OAV or OAV#?

I’m more of a + type of guy, but the # numbers are better than the regular numbers
