Is that a thing? How does it play out? At the lower levels, redshirting a Sr is can be genius in the right situation. But with EEs, how does that play into things.

I know coaches like cubcub love the recruiting money, but personally I can't stand 1 man senior classes. So I've got a Jr on the big board. He's ranked in the 80s and 90s on the fence. He's my only Jr.

so when next season begins, if he comes back to school, I'd love to consider the redshirt. How would that affect things? Would it eliminate the chances he'd leave in the offseason? Increase the chances? Would it solidify that he will return, just as the lower divisions work?

does anybody have experience in trying this? And what were your results?

Haven’t tried it with a graduating player on the big board. I suspect they might choose to go pro, as if he was a junior, so in effect you might be giving yourself another round of Russian roulette. But it probably doesn’t increase his chances of leaving, if that’s what you’re asking.

My guess is that it doesn't directly impact his decision to leave or stay. So if he had a 50% chance of leaving before the RS, that would stay the same.

Now, I expect his WE to drop to 1 and I've heard that overall rating can influence spot on EE board so that could help if it were true but I'm not sure it really is.

You can easily drop the guy off if he's in the 80s/90s and you drop his WE to 1. If you want to, this definitely isn't the worst move ever.

Last season, I had a junior who was ranked somewhere in the 70's on the big board. I redshirted him and he accepted with no problem. He came back for this season (RS JR) and was back on the big board in the 80's at the start of the season. I didn't give him any practice time and he eventually fell off the big board, so I'm hoping he returns next year (I'll find out tomorrow). I know this doesn't answer your question, but thought it may be the closest data to what you're looking for.

Maybe I should've been more clear..... first and foremost I want to redshirt him because he will be my only senior next season and I don't like 1 man classes. I'd rather have 12 returning the next season and a 5th year senior basically out of the deal

so the big board stuff got involved basically because he just happens to be on it. If he wasn't on it I'd still be redshirting. So I was just curious the effects of it all. Thanks for all input
