Getting emotionally attached Topic

For those who have multiple teams, do you find yourself being much more emotionally attached to one of your teams than the others? For instance, I have one team where I know every player on the team and can list the roster without looking at it. The rest of my teams, I can't even name a single player without looking at the team.

Yep, my DePauw team in Knight will always be the favorite child even if my other teams in other words outperform them.

Of course. It happens to me in GD, HBD, and now HD. It makes me wonder if I should just focus on my favorite team in each sport, and let the rest go.

Yes, absolutely. It's shifted. First, it was Indiana in Wooden, because that was my first world and the first world I made it to DI. Now it's Oklahoma State in Iba because it's my alma mater. I was so happy when I finally got it.

That's awesome! Congrats on getting them.

For me it's Eastern Mennonite, because I used to be the announcer for their basketball teams. I've often wondered though if I were to get the same school in multiple worlds if I would be invested in them all or if I would still pick one that was my top team to invest in lol

UVA in Knight was the team I first took over upon my return and I loved coaching them. However, my Hampton team in Tark is my favorite. I took them over thinking I'd build them up and go pick up another big 6 school. Boy, was I wrong. The conference is competitive, the coaches are constantly posting in the CC, and my first successes at Hampton came at a time when I had lost 13/14 recruiting battles at Virginia which has left a sour taste in my mouth ever since (even now after I've had 3-4 consecutive good recruiting classes). If Virginia is in for a rough season with little hope for the future, I plan on bailing. I don't ever plan on leaving Hampton unless I leave WIS again.

I’ve coached Eastern Connecticut in Smith D3 for something like 30 seasons or so. I would love to jump to Scranton since that was my school, but just can’t make the break. And I don’t want to pick it up in a different world because I already have three teams, one at each level, and that’s my limit.

I tried to get my daughter to go to D3 Whittier in SoCal. Told her I "knew" the basketball coach. She did apply and got accepted. But ended up going elsewhere... Sigh...

I know everything about all my teams by heart, and also most of my longterm opponents too. But my love for my team shifts. Now days I don't focus as hard on recruiting as I used to. So my teams shift gears a lot. My Naismith team was great for a long time. Now my Wooden team has been great, but is falling off now. Iba seems to be an every other season type of interest. So for me it all seems to just run its course. I love all my kids equally!

Also on a bit of a different scenario, but still a bit on topic. This last recruiting season, I stumbled on a player from my old HS. I've seen a few players from the school, but never anyone worth recruiting. This player was different. He was the #128 ranked C and while he has flaws he would be a very solid Div 2 player and I'm at a Div 3 school. I was able to sign him with no legitimate competition (a couple Sim AI teams came in at the last minute but didn't push hard for him) and I was able to sign him. So now I'm at a team with an emotional attachment and just signed a recruit who comes in with an emotional attachment.

I haven't done it in a while but I went to HS in NJ and despite largely coaching Midwest teams I used to scout NJ every year just to see if there are any players from my high school. I also went to a D3 school in NY (that joined D3 after HD started so my alma mater is not in game) and I'll sometimes look for players from my alma mater's town as well.

Yes, I'm much more tied to my Illinois team in Wooden than any other team (although I can name all of my players and their rating caps by heart on every team). Illinois is my alma mater and the place I've won 4 of my 5 national titles.
8.3.4

Nice! I went to EMU for grad school but didn't coach their team because I wanted to let my buddy have them that did his undergrad there.

And it also appears that you have coached at my undergrad alma mater - Wayne State College.

I've become emotionally attached to my Point Guard, he's been a 4 year starter. School record in Minutes played, on the leaderboard for points, assists, steals. You get the picture.

He's like a sim son to me -- thinking about bringing him on as an assistant coach next year.

My D3 Wabash team will always be my favorite. It was my first team and I have been coaching them for 50 plus seasons. There are also my only NT Champion team.
