There are things I would change about 3.0, but for me, overall it is a better game and experience than the past versions.

(I mostly coach low-mid D1 fwiw.)
Low D1 rebuilds in 3.0 are a bunch of fun to me.

Thanks ABG... I'll keep an eye out for your conference and congrats on the championship! The 3.0 update killed the joy from D1... wait till tweaks (EE/JUCO/Transfers/Recruiting) are made before making the jump... these tweaks should happen anytime now (before 2030). I've got a gut feeling D1/D2 is more enjoyable in 2nd recruiting cycle.
No offense, I'm wanting to be helpful. But I know there is a group that likes the previous versions. And there's a group that likes the new version. But it's the same game. I played in 1.0 I believe. And quit for 7 years. If you love HD, adjustments made to the game shouldn't change that. It's just like anything else in life where you have to make adjustments to what you're used to.

I'm always baffled by the stories of the old vets quitting when 3.0 came out. I wasn't here during the change so I can't speak for others. But we're still recruiting, game planning, and playing basketball people! When I came back, sure everything was different. But I didn't think "this game is great NOW" nor did I think "this game sucks NOW". I just adjusted.

it just reminded me of the many times I've dropped my phone and had to get a new one..... readjust to the new formats/settings and it's business as usual

come back and hoop!
I agree but could never adjust to the 2nd cycle. Recruiting was always my favorite (also very stressful) part of HD and it completely lost its luster. And to come back for 1 season to try it out... you are playing with someone else's recruits. At D2/D3 the 2nd cycle would be fun.

Taking over a D2 team before RS2 is really the worst of all possible scenarios.

You start searching D1 pulldown candidates and find numerous good players with early signing preferences are already locked down by D2s who've offered scholarships; and they'll sign immediately when RS2 signings begin. The late signing preference kids are slightly more attainable but the timing still works very much against you.

Your mileage may vary, but I find this uniquely frustrating.

You are right. I forgot when you start you begin with cycle #2 and get nothing. So unless you are taking over a very good team, year one is very frustrating.

First, there's no such thing as pulldowns now! ;) you have access to any and all recruits you want to target at any level. Of course that affected by who else is recruiting them.

I agree that if a one season return is all you're interested in, you're likely not gonna enjoy it. I just play the long game with HD. I know it's a marathon and not a race. (I prefer full rebuilds and outside of D1 I've only taken over a team that has human recruited players one time). Hopefully you'll enjoy it and stick around more than 1 season! The community is great and so is the competition.

also, again I can't speak on the past, but I think the credit system is the same or similar as it used to be. If I'm wrong, someone please feel free to tell me I'm wrong. But I thought it used to be the same...... 2nd round $5, S16 $10, E8 $15, F4 $20, title loss $25 worth of reward points, and a title win at $37.50 worth of reward points. If you buy by the 10pack, a S16 every season means you play free.

That is good info to remember. I prob average a 2nd round exit or sweet 16 with upperclass teams. I'm going to try to pull 1-2 old coaches back in and start D3/D2. But I think I'm at my best at low D1 schools because I tend to go for team needs as opposed to best players I can get.
