Available Salary on Opening Day Topic

Greetings,

Interested in thoughts on how much salary you ideally keep available as of Opening Day. Realizing the may be dependent on outlook for season, so let's say "borderline playoff but not WS contender"...what say ye?

If I have the money available I like between 2-6 million. Let’s me sign a guy if one of my guys in the majors goes down with an injury and I don’t have a replacement, makes sure I have enough to pay my Prospects I sign from the draft / IFA and if I want to make a trade, taking on the salary of a players contract means either A ) I might get the player for a better deal if I’m a buyer B) I might be able to take on a bad contract and get a prospect if I’m a seller.

I always spend too much and leave only a mil or two if that lol. I will say though that at the trade deadline teams not in the hunt are more willing to cover salary if you need a guy.

I try to keep 1 mill left for emergency callups etc. But I also plan on winning the ws every season.

2 to 4 million.

1-2 million when I'm contending. More than enough to manage trades, call-ups, and even an mid-season emergency FA signing if I get slaughtered with injuries. The biggest problem with running a budget that tight is actually running up against the next season salary cap when trading for someone with a non-expiring contract.
