Recruiting vs. Sim Topic

I'm coaching at a D3 school and have been targeting a D1 recruit since early on. Just three cycles before the 11pm time where D3 schools can sign drop downs a DI sim school has entered this list. I'm guessing the sim may start making a move on him right before I can sign him.

Is there any way I can fend off the D1 sim? Would it even matter if I spent all my little budget or can I only sit back and hope the sim doesn't actually take him.

Are you already at moderate with a scholarship? If so & the D1 school is at very low I wouldn't be too concerned. If the D1 pulls up to moderate you can probably knock them off with a couple home visits.

You've already got a ton of AP in the kid, I'm assuming, since you've been on him since session 1. That should be enough to stave off a sim D1.

based on what Seble told me once, Sim AI recruiting backs off pretty quickly if they feel it is an uphill battle. I've got one player I'm a bit concerned because Sim AI jumped in 1 day before the end of RS1. And there are now about 15 different Sim AI teams, however I threw in a campus visit and 6 home visits and none seem to be creeping to moderate. Hopefully I don't lose him because he is a difference maker for a D3 team.

Sim teams are basically looking for weak spots, throwing **** against the wall and watching what sticks. As mentioned above, if you have built up a good foundation of AP, you have nothing to worry about. Sims go right for the lead, and if they can’t get there with AP in a cycle or two, they will move on.

Thanks fellas!

Yes, I am moderate with him. A D1 human is one thing, but I couldn't take another sim jumping in and poaching my player. I need this guy to keep my program in track to where it should be. I spend on a CV and going to do a couple HV this rd. So far the sim has stayed very low.

If there are other places for your $$ to go, you shouldn’t need to spend anything to keep sims at VL at this point. It would only be a concern if you had maybe just offered the scholarship, so ~25 AP or so of D1 sim effort was enough to get them within striking distance.

If you don’t have any other battles emerging, no harm in dropping a visit or 3, especially if he’s your top guy, to protect against a late human charge. But don’t worry about the sim.

+1. No need to spend extra unless they rise above VL. Likely you have enough AP to stave them off without spending any $.

Based off of this, I'm assuming as a D2 school falling behind a SIM D1 on first cycle with them going moderate while your low will typically mean you have no shot of passing them up

You can definitely pass them up but you will have to spend. A campus visit, a couple home visits, and/or a promised start / minutes could get you back into the fight with a sim. Another user can explain better but the sim only spends at specific points in time so if you can knock them back down you should have a shot. It's just up to you if you want to spend there or save the $ for other recruits.

When pushing down sims from lower divisions, doing it quickly is important. As mentioned above, sims spend some kinda effort (how much is always debated) every cycle that they are still in the game. The object is to get them down to very low. Once that is done they will effectively die off. There are SOME occasions where the sim will die off at Low. But it's detailed. And fact of the matter is, you're never safe until they are pushed to very low.

so the faster you can get it done the better. You'll have to get a feel for it. But I think the best way is to unlock the ship as soon as possible (obviously) and then do your promises. Use the offer of promises as a range finder. If your promises move the sim down to moderate, it's a sign that you're not terribly far away from pushing them to very low. Next cycle you can add your 3-10 HV, depending on all factors.... preferences, prestige, etc. BUT..... if you offer promises and the sim is still at very high or high, that tells you that you'll need to spend a lot in that cycle, or decide to move on.

But the quicker the better. Let's just guess that sim offers 2 HV per cycle (that's a random guess!). If you're unable to push sim down to very low with your initial offer of visits, the sim will offer 2 more HV next cycle. Making it more difficult to push them down now. Make sense?
